Agenda - Accessibility/Usability of IT Coordinating Group (Coordinating Group)

June 26, 2014, 11:00-12:00, Union S. (Check TITU)

  3. Brief updates on past action:
    • Tools Team (Gary):
    • accessibility:
      • Some features are accessible others are not.
    • Kaltura video platform:
      • Awareness on campus is mixed.
      • Working on adjusting the default settings.
  4. Check in: A street view of accessibility
  5. Liaison Reports (as available):
    • CIC (Carrie)
    • eText (Carrie)
    • Online Course Production and Delivery Committee (Steve Boldt)
      • Captioning and accessibility in general is being added to the project process.
      • Want to do an early assessment of possible issues for a course, but need to wait until development begins to address specific issues.

    • Captioning contract (Todd and Phyllis)
      • Will be revisiting this. Have been on the same contract for five years. Will try to pull in interested people.
  6. Informal survey questions
    Results of informal survey questions (Todd)
    • Chairs should discuss how to maintain interest in the team. Need to avoid burnout. For example, should we meet less often but for 90 minutes?
  7. Draft report to sponsors (Todd, Joyce, Gary)
    • Gary recorded suggested edits. Will update document. Chairs will do final review at next chairs meeting, then send to sponsors.

Future agenda items:

  • Accessibility and Diversity are related, followup (suggested at May 1, 2014 meeting) Note: we made brief contact with Hazel Symonette at the T&LS on May 19.
  • Proposal on how to organize future accessibility events. See: email exchange on the topic.
  • Organization of web accessibility guidelines and supporting material, (see meeting notes from March 20, 2014 through May 1, 2014 for history)
  • Brainstorm "Resources to help developers and content providers to incorporate accesssibility into their existing processes" (suggested at March 6, 2014 meeting) 
  • Go over the implications of the new Wisconsin law on accessibile educational materials in higher education (suggested at April 17, 2014 meeting)
  • Brainstorm how to build awareness of instructional content accessibility (suggested at May 29 meeting)
