The operational leadership team is charged with facilitating the effective implementation of library initiatives and projects requiring staff resources from multiple units of the library. The creation of the team acknowledges that most of the major library projects today require effective coordination and communication between multiple units of the library system. The operational leadership team is created by the GLS Executive Group and reports to that group. A member of the GLS Executive Group will serve as chair of the operational leadership team. Members of the team are appointed by the GLS Associate University Librarians and serve at the pleasure of the Executive Group. Appointments will be reviewed annually.

Responsibilities and expectations of the members of the operational leadership team include:

  • Developing a culture of trust, collegiality and collaboration within the operational leadership team and within the library
  • Effectively working together to operationalize the library’s strategic initiatives
  • Facilitating interlibrary projects and communications
    • Examples include:
      • Planning required to integrate the UW Press into Memorial Library
      • Developing a lost and missing books policy
  • Developing and reviewing policies, procedures and practices
  • Serving in an advisory capacity to the GLS Executive Group
  • Providing an opportunity for leadership development

The Executive Group recommends meetings of the operational leadership team to be every other week.
