Open Source Software

The Open Source Software (OSS) initiative investigates how use of open source software can result in significant cost savings, particularly when the amount of customization is small, and how open source software can be better included in pre-purchasing discussions and the competitive bidding process.

Status

This initiative is now included under the IT Pre-purchasing Processes (PreP) initative.

Policy Planning Team (PPT) suggests that the OSS can be addressed as part of the proposed IT Pre-purchasing Process (Pre-purchasing) initiative.

04/23/09

PPT Meeting. OSS received insufficient priority to be initiated during FY 2009-2010, but remains on the plan for possible future action.

04/06/09

IT Policy Forum. OSS was included in the IT Policy Plan for FY 2009-2010.

03/26/09

PPT Meeting. Included the OSS initiative in draft 2009-2010 plan.

02/04/09

IT Policy Forum. OSS is suggested as a possible new IT policy initiative for FY 2009-2010.
