A PAT Swim Lane diagram shows a horizontal lane for each entity.
- Entities can perform consequtive actions (horizontal) as they swim in their own lane, or they may pass the lead (vertically) between lanes.
- For the IT Policy Process, each step is done in sequence. As a result, the lead is always passed between lanes during the step.
- In a normal Swim Lane Diagram, the actions are connected by arrows. It turn out (conveniently) that most entities participate in the same order during each step. Exceptions are noted. Therefore the arrows are omitted to avoid cluttering up the diagram.
